Myofascial Release

Myofascial Therapy is a whole-body, hands-on approach to soft tissue therapy with the goals of restoring tissue health, assisting the body in moving with increased freedom, and balancing the body's alignment. Techniques include manual massage techniques for stretching fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, organs, muscles, and bones. The fascia is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. During Myofascial Therapy, the fascia is manipulated, directly or indirectly, to allow connective tissue fibers to reorganize themselves in a more flexible, functional fashion.

Injuries, stress, inflammation, trauma, and poor posture can cause restriction in the facial system. Since fascia is an interconnected web, over time the restriction or tightness in one location can spread to other places in the body -- much like a pull in a sweater. Many patients come to the clinic with painful conditions where the pain location does not accurately reflect the tissues requiring treatment.  Our therapists are trained to identify the pattern of restriction within the body rather than to simply begin treating the area of pain.

An excellent compliment to this form of therapy is rehabilitative exercise that will assist in maintaining the alignment of the body and mobility in the fascia. This can initially take the form of the Muscle Balance and Function Development® System, Physical Therapy or other prescriptive exercise programs that focus on restoration of the bodies function. The ultimate goal is to achieve optimal function and maintain a level of function required to perform your daily activities.
